ABEX Management Services a participant in the Greenhouse
Friendly Program
ABEX
Management Services is proud to be appointed as a Verifier under the
Australian Greenhouse Office’s (AGO) Greenhouse Friendly Program. Through our
senior Environmental Management Consultant Wayne Hickey, ABEX will have the
opportunity to participate in the process of Greenhouse Friendly certification
for products and services sold or provided in Australia.
The Greenhouse
Friendly Program aims to minimise the impact of good and services on global
warming. It intends to achieve this by offering certification for goods and
services whose cradle to grave emissions have been offset by
emissions-reducing activities in other areas. Goods and services which have
been certified under this Program will be given a certification mark which can
be used by consumers to differentiate them from non-certified products.
In the current
atmosphere of environmental awareness, those products and services which can
prove themselves to be “greenhouse friendly” are likely to have a competitive
edge.
Any product or
service which is sold or supplied in Australia is eligible for certification.
To obtain certification, a product manufacturer or service provider must prove
that the cradle to grave emissions involved in providing the goods and
services have been offset in accordance with the Program. Upon application to
the Australian Greenhouse Office to be certified, the manufacturer or supplier
is given a choice of independent Verifiers, such as ABEX, who have relevant
expertise and experience.
The role of
the Verifier is to assess the products or services and the abatement projects
entered into by the service provider or product manufacturer, to ensure that
they comply with the requirements of the Program. The Verifier submits a
report to a Program Administrator, appointed by the AGO. The Program
Administrator will then make a recommendation to the AGO, which has the final
discretion.
